Santa Claus made a whistle stop visit to Strabane on Saturday night to lead a Magical Christmas Procession to turn on the town’s festive lights with Mayor of Derry and Strabane, Councillor Patricia Logue.

The Mayor and Santa were joined by Christmas themed mobile installations from LUXe, Pantomine characters and local dance groups.

Mayor Logue praised the thousands of local people who lined the streets to support the event and got an up close look at the characters including King Wenceslas and his Golden Geese, a flying Elf on a bike and Reindeer dancers.

“Strabane was a hive of activity on Saturday night and the crowds clearly loved seeing Santa and the beautiful mobile installations and dancers pass them by,” she said.

“The town is looking stunning and ready for what I hope will be a busy Christmas period for local traders.

“I’d like to congratulate Council’s Maintenance and Electrical departments for their work in setting up the decorations and lights around the city centre and our Festivals and Events team and all their partners for coordinating a brilliant event.”

“I’m looking forward to hosting my Christmas Tea Dance in the town next month and my Christmas Movie afternoons in the Alley Theatre which starts with Miracle on 31st Street next week.”

The Mayor’s Christmas Tea Dances are scheduled for December 6th in the Guildhall and 12th December in St Patrick’s Hall in Strabane.
